Who We Are
United Association (UA) Local 855 is a New Jersey-based union representing over 1,700 skilled workers, primarily employed by Public Service Electric & Gas (PSE&G). As an affiliate of the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry, its roots trace back to the national labor movements of the late 19th century.
National Background
The parent organization, the United Association (UA), was founded in 1889 as a national labor voice for plumbers, gas fitters, and steamfitters in the United States and Canada. Throughout the early 20th century, the UA established comprehensive apprenticeship programs, nationalized strike benefits, and set the standard for craft jurisdiction, effectively laying the groundwork for specialized locals across the continent.
Formation and Evolution of Local 855
Headquartered in Somerville, New Jersey, UA Local 855 represents the Public Utility Construction and Gas Appliance Workers of the State of New Jersey.
